Tincture FAQ's

Some common questions about the effects of medicinal mushrooms, tincture dosage and more.

What is a mushroom tincture?

A mushroom tincture is a concentrated liquid extract made from medicinal mushrooms like Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail, and Reishi. Our tinctures are made from in-house grown mushrooms and are extracted using industry standard "dual extract" techniques. We use a series of specialized equipment to perform both a water based and an alcohol based extraction on the mushrooms to capture both alcohol-soluble and water-soluble compounds, making our tinctures potent and effective supplements.

How do I take mushroom tinctures?

Mushroom tinctures are usually taken by placing a few drops (typically 30–60 drops, or 1–2 dropperfuls) directly under the tongue, where they are absorbed quickly into the bloodstream. Alternatively (and to the personal preference of most), tinctures can be mixed with water, tea, coffee, or juice. It’s typically recommended to take them 1-3 times a day, depending on the dosage and the type of mushroom. Always follow the dosage instructions on the product label.

Are mushroom tinctures safe to use?

Yes, mushroom tinctures are generally safe for most people when used as directed. However, individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications (especially immune-suppressing drugs) should consult a healthcare provider before using mushroom tinctures. Some mushrooms, like Reishi and Lion's Mane can interact with blood-thinning medications, while others may have mild gastrointestinal effects in sensitive individuals. These stomach upsets are more often caused by taking mushroom supplements in powder or capsuled forms where digestion of the mushroom tissue is necessary for absorption into the body. Tinctures eliminate the need for digestion and are readily absorbed and utilized into the bloodstream.

How should I store my mushroom tinctures?

Mushroom tinctures should be stored in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat. A cupboard or pantry is usually ideal. Proper storage helps maintain the tincture's potency over time. Because the alcohol acts as a preservative, mushroom tinctures have a long shelf life, often lasting 1–3 years if stored correctly. Though with regular use they shouldn't be sitting that long anyway.

How long does it take for a mushroom tincture to work?

The effects of a mushroom tincture can vary depending on the individual, the type of mushroom, and the reason for use. Many people report feeling benefits from taking tinctures consistently over a few weeks.Since tinctures are concentrated, they tend to work faster than capsules or powders, but individual responses can vary. These supplements are intended to be used daily 1-3 times depending on your use case or preference.
